This original space-age JVC Nivico Videosphere monochrome (black & white) television was produced in the early 1970s and is still in working order. There is a scratch across the black plexiglass screen cover (which can be seen most clearly in the first large image below), but otherwise the set is in excellent condition – and most unusually there is no yellowing to the white plastic casing.
The ball-shaped television can be swivelled in any direction or even lifted right off its square base and hung from its chunky chain handle for true retro space-age style (see final image below). The set was manufactured at the Yokohama Plant Victor Compay of Japan Ltd and the model number is 3240SC. It has a height of 34cm (13.5 inches) on its stand and a diameter of 29cm (11.5 inches).
There are controls for on/off, volume, contrast, brightness, tuning, horizontal hold, vertical hold and picture height. The built-in telescopic antenna can be augmented by VHF or UHF ariels and there is a socket for an earpiece. It uses a 220v/50Hz/21w power source, and comes with its original electric lead and european-style two-pin plug, but also has a separate power socket allowing it to be run from a 12v DC source.
